A Look at the LyricsVERSION 5 “Absolute Zero”- A Look at the Lyrics

On this week’s A Look at the Lyrics, we have an Electro-Punk-Rock band hailing from Minneapolis. Follow along as Andy of VERSION 5 gives us the meaning behind Absolute Zero. Enjoy the ride.

We were inspired to write the lyrics after a few all-night caffeine and alcohol-infused writing sessions in the heart of a bitterly cold Minnesota winter. The vibe of the song had a Space-rock feel to it. We thought it’d be cool to compare the hollow feeling of a bad breakup or losing a loved one to space- and to give the song some emotional context. We thought- what’s the loneliest place you could be? Alone in deep space. Then we started using terms to have double meanings- gravity as in the weight or depression you feel after a bad breakup, and absolute zero as in hitting rock bottom. It was like pulling teeth to get started but once it got rolling we wrote the song pretty quickly. We’re fans of electronic artists like The Prodigy, so we wanted to have glitchy breakbeats and then combine that with a big stadium-rock chorus.

-Andy, VERSION 5

Absolute Zero-VERSION5

This is my reality
No air to breathe

Always hear your voice inside my head

You break me down
What have I become
Frozen, with ice running through my veins
Break me down
Where did I go wrong
I’m falling, to the lowest I can go
Absolute zero

Can’t escape the gravity
I’ll never leave

Always hear your voice inside my head

You break me down
What have I become
Frozen, with ice running through my veins
Break me down
Where did I go wrong
I’m falling, to the lowest I can go
Absolute zero

I’m going down

Absolute zero

You break me down
What have I become
Frozen, with ice running through my veins
Break me down
Where did I go wrong
I’m falling, to the lowest I can go

Absolute zero
