Jo Below, a melodic hard rock band based in Helsinki, Finland, recently released a brand new single, “I Confess” from their upcoming album, No Control. Inverse Records plans to release the album on April 16, 2021, and will include other songs, such as the released single “Ms. Death”. Just as “Ms. Death”, “I Confess” uses a style similar to Stone Sour, Halestorm, and Paramore with heavy low- tuned guitar riffs and catchy vocal hooks. The lyrics provide insights on being empowered and finding self- worth after being a part of an unhealthy relationship.

Frontwoman Johanna Kari, guitarist Roni Seppänen, bassist Jonne Linqvist, and drummer Olli Vartiainen, are  the members of Jo Below, which was established in 2017. Listeners can enjoy a variety of musical taste in the singles. says that they are influenced by a wide range of bands including Foo Fighters, HIM, Bon Jovi, and The Sounds and that the band is trying to use pop hooks and grooves in with their songs. He also mentions the pop inspiration will be more obvious in No Control.

The band uses other inspiration. For lyric inspiration, Johanna uses her own experience and thoughts or stories from that she has heard or read about. She exclusively states, “We hope that people can find something in our songs that they can relate to.” The band also stays motivated with new work. Roni says, “All of us have been doing music related stuff more or less professionally for quite a long time. When you’re working in the field of music some of the stuff you do might feel a little less inspiring, so with Jo Below we just try to keep it fun and write the best rock music we can.”

The main goal for Jo Below in 2021 is to complete a full length album. They also wish to collaborate with other artists that they look up to. The band also leaves some advice for upcoming musicians. Roni states that it is a challenge to be a musician during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the first step to becoming successful in the music industry is to really develop skill with a chosen instrument and that being a virtuoso player is not necessary. He emphasizes that being reliable, punctual, and doing your homework will keep bandmates and employers satisfied regardless of talent range.
