On this week’s Find Your Muse(ic) we have Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Hip Hop artist Lo and his single “One Up“. Featuring a melodic back drop and a visceral rhyme scheme, Lo holds nothing back as he exercises his demons and spills his guts about his past and battle with depression. For as much angst that hangs in the atmosphere of this gigantic track, Lo manages to somehow show that there is a light at the end of the tunnel despite all of the chaos and despair amongst “One Up”. While the song overall is easy on the ears and catchy, Lo (aka Mr. Brett Shepard) really manages to tug on the old heartstrings with his vocal performance. This is a testament to the power of music and how despite what is going on, music can bring us back again to that place of hope that once seemed lost. “One Up” simply put is unapologetic, sincere, heart felt, painful, and a soul that is wide open for the world the see that while many of us feel isolated throughout our battles with anxiety and depression, we are not alone.
