Alter the Design finds themselves heading in a direction with their sophomore release UNDIVIDED, due out December 11 2018. This hard rock band out of Pittsburgh delves into a more metal style that catches the listeners attention quickly.

A short creative Intro and you are catapulted into a beautiful darkness of driven riffs and drum beats that that grip you. The vocals find a perfect match in the passion and tone of the slightly rough alto voice in Feathers. The third track Third Degree refuses to be outdone and continues the journey through dark storytelling. By the second run this song became a personal favorite of mine. If you want to have a driven chorus stuck firmly in your mind, you need to check this track out. The two heaviest tracks, these songs bring to mind the story of the doomed flight of Icarus. Raising the listener to the burning sun, then dropping them to the tidal abyss below. With the undertone of the lyrics in this release, maybe there’s a hidden lesson there.

The tracks that follow are a break into the light from the dark stories first created, going back to their hard rock roots, . Where the first two songs leave you spiraling into the depths, Inside breaks out with a lighter sound and brings you up for air. I would consider The Hollow to be the most radio friendly song of the CD. It has a throwback feel to the 90’s while keeping things modern with stylized vocals. Fight or Flight is a blend – going with a touch of metal but still hard rock. Can I just say – Damn, those drums!! Throughout the tracks something that stands out is the sharp style and intense beats that at times are so rapid fire it’s practically a weapon! There is a mesh with the talent on guitars that brings this to another level at times.

Overall, UNDIVIDED is an intense collection of songs that would appeal to anyone that’s into rock or metal. It’s crisp and clean despite the intense wash of emotion. There really seems to be an outpouring of something almost private in each song. Each member seems to have reached deep inside, found their core and put it to music. True to their name, Alter the Design has found a way to recreate the path they were on. You need to stay tuned in because these guys are definitely heading places!
